The Island’s economic success begins in the classroom.
That was the comment made by Geoff Corkish MBE, MLC, Member of the Department of Education and Children, as he congratulated teachers who have taken part in the Primary Leadership and Management Training Programme.
Thirty four teachers from 18 schools gained qualifications after a year’s study. The achievement will enable them to take the next steps on the career ladder.
Fourteen teachers completed level two of the programme – aimed at those who already lead an area of the curriculum or another aspect of school life.
Some of the 14 completed an additional assignment which, once validated by the University of Chester, will allow them to continue towards a Post Graduate Certificate in school leadership.
Eight teachers completed level three of the programme – aimed at those with more experience who aspire to lead schools in the future.
Twelve teachers completed a Post Graduate Certificate in school leadership, awarded by the University of Chester.
The teachers received their certificates from Mr Corkish at a ceremony today at the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education, which runs the programme.
Mr Corkish said: ‘The Island’s economic success begins in the classroom, where good teachers inspire pupils to fulfil their potential.
‘We continually strive to raise standards in schools, both through training and through our programme of school self-review and evaluation (SSRE).
‘The teachers here today have invested in their own careers and in the future success of the Isle of Man and I’d like to congratulate them on their achievements.’
