The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is helping the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion attend this year’s Isle of Man Remembrance services.

Members of the national branch have been invited to the services to be held in Douglas, Castletown and St John’s between 6th and 8th November. They will be guests of the Royal British Legion Isle of Man County and will join veterans, standard bearers and cadets at the services.

The group will be travelling with five motorcycles and two cars, and the Steam Packet Company is assisting with the costs.

The Riders Branch includes members from the Royal Navy, the Army, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Marines as well as those who have not served. They are brought together by an enthusiasm for motorcycling and support for the work of the Royal British Legion. In addition to attending formal Legion-organised events and fundraising, members take part in many types biking events, such as track days and rallies.

Ian Lisle, a member of the Eastern region of the Riders Branch, is one of the group visiting the Island.

He said: ‘As members of the Royal British Legion, it is a great honour for our branch to be invited to join the Isle of Man County at its Remembrance service, and as bikers it is very exciting to be visiting the home of the world-famous TT course. The Island is so filled with motorcycling history, we are all really looking forward to exploring, and proud to be representing our branch at the services.

‘I’d like to say a big thank you to the Steam Packet Company for all its help in organising our travel, and assisting us so much with the costs to ensure the Riders Branch could have a strong presence at the Remembrance events organised for the weekend of our visit.’

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward added: ‘The Remembrance services are an important opportunity to think of those who have served their nation, including the many who have been killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. We were pleased to be able to help members of the Riders Branch travel to the Island to join our commemorations, and join the Manx community as we honour our servicemen and women.’
