Bid to ease pressure on police

by isleofman.com 9th October 2015

A 'traffic lights' poster has been published by police with the aim of reducing demand on front line officers.

It's hoped the public will follow the guidelines and think twice before calling 999 at the scene of road traffic collisions. Officers will still attend the scene if someone is injured, the road is blocked or a serious offence has been committed.

A spokesman for the road policing unit said: 'The expectations of our community are important to us but we need to balance those with what resources we have as well as our requirements under law.'

Earlier this week, Chief Constable Gary Roberts revealed that he had been forced to temporarily disband the road policing unit for a period of time last year, and that for a while there was no essential cover on the mountain road.
