Footway improvements scheduled for completion this week

by isleofman.com 6th October 2015
Work to enhance the footpath and kerbing on a section of the A1 is scheduled for completion this Friday, 9th October.

Traffic management will remain in place on the Douglas side of the Jubilee Oak roundabout until the scheme is finished.

Improvements to the footway between the entrance to Douglas Rugby Club’s Port-e-Chee ground and Braddan Road are taking place as part of an overall highway refurbishment in the area. The project is being undertaken by private contractors on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure.

Resurfacing of the road between Quarterbridge and the roundabout at Braddan Bridge was completed on schedule on 26 September, with work being carried out at night to minimise disruption to the public.

The kerbing and footway improvements are taking slightly longer than expected because of a series of unforeseen operational challenges. These include a delay in the supply of materials, a need to excavate twice as deep as originally planned and a requirement to dig by hand rather than by machine owing to the position of fibre optic cables.

The Department wishes to thank motorists and pedestrians for their continued patience and cooperation during the work and to apologise for any inconvenience.
