Microgaming scoops two wins at the Global Gaming Awards 2015

by isleofman.com 30th September 2015
For the second year running, Microgaming has won Digital Product of the Year at the Global Gaming Awards. It was awarded for the iconic Jurassic Park™ online slot which is available on all platforms. In addition, this year saw Microgaming win the Digital Gaming Innovation award for its forward thinking work in Virtual Reality and Wearable Technology.

The 2015 Global Gaming Awards were held on the 28th September 2015 at the Venetian Palazzo Congress Center, Las Vegas. The Global Gaming Awards celebrate the year’s triumphs in digital and land-based gaming, with 12 awards to recognise industry achievements. A panel of 50 expert judges cast their vote to decide the worthy winners. As with last year’s awards, KPMG Gibraltar officiated to provide complete transparency in the voting process.

Microgaming successfully secured Digital Product of the Year, triumphing with the ever popular and innovative Jurassic Park online slot. The first product of its kind to use Parallax Scrolling effects, the game features all of the most memorable dinosaurs, such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor and Triceratops. With 3D-rendered imagery, the iconic brand is brought to life with dinosaur-themed features activating free spins and a unique set of bonus features.

Digital Gaming Innovation of the Year was awarded to Microgaming over nine other shortlisted competitors. VR Roulette, an excitingly real yet surreal take of a seat at the roulette table, uses Oculus Rift wearable technology to transport the player to a casino in cyberspace. VR Roulette utilises the Oculus Rift DK 2 headset with Leap Motion 3D Controller to track a player’s hand movements and then project them into the 3D world. Examining analogue interactions across real and virtual environments, Microgaming developed VR Roulette to study the immersive potential of 3D technology in the gaming industry. They ended up creating a stunning game in its own right, and have built on the findings to create Augmented and Virtual Reality Apps for a range of devices.

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, commented: “We are so proud to win not one but two awards at this highly prestigious and credible award ceremony! Jurassic Park™ is an incredible game and the fact that the experience is just as impressive on mobile as it is online really does blow people away. But to win an award for innovation is particularly close to my heart as we have always worked so hard to stay several steps ahead of the industry, predicting trends and ensuring that our content works on emerging technology. For those that have seen our slots work on smart watches and experienced our VR Roulette product, it is an incredible insight into the future of online gaming. A big thanks and well done to my team for this huge achievement!”
