Clear skies for lunar eclipse

by isleofman.com 28th September 2015

The heavens aligned in the early hours of this morning to provide a spectacular sight in Manx skies.

Conditions were perfect for the lunar eclipse. The total eclipse occurred at about 3.40am and this photo was taken by Bill Dale.

The phenomenon - when the moon is at its closest to Earth, making it appear larger, and is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun so that filtered light creates a red effect - won't occur again until 2033. It was last observed in 1982.
