Child abuser jailed

by isleofman.com 25th September 2015

Douglas man Peter Kewley was today (Friday) sentenced to ten years and six months imprisonment and described in court as a 'ruthless sexual predator'.

Kewley, aged 68, was convicted of eight charges of indecent assault against four children, committed between 1979 and 2014.

The police public protection unit has issued a statement thanking the victims for their bravery and encouraging others who have suffered recent or historic sexual abuse to come forward.

The police comment in full reads: 'This investigation has been extremely difficult and distressing for everyone involved due the very sensitive nature of the offences committed against the victims. We are pleased that this investigation has now come to a successful conclusion for the victims and their families affected by the highly inappropriate and opportunistic actions of Mr Kewley, and we are hoping that this final process will be some form of closure for the victims involved.

'I would like to thank the victims involved in this investigation for their bravery to report the matter to the police and their continued support and courage during the investigation and court process.

'I would like to thank staff at the victim support services for their assistance and support they have provided to the victims throughout this investigation and the support they continue to provide. Thanks also to Ms Braidwood at the Attorney General's Chambers for the way this investigation was dealt with to a successful prosecution.

'The Isle of Man Constabulary and in particular officers within the public protection unit would encourage any person to contact the police if they believe they are victims of recent or historic sexual assault or abuse. Officers will be able to provide expert advice, guidance and support throughout the entire process.'
