Drugs helpline to close

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2015

It's been confirmed that a charity established almost 20 years ago and devoted to helping people with drug problems is to be shut down.

A spokesman for the Drug Advice Service & Helpline - Dash - said a statement was due to be made by the board of the charity, adding that many clients, particularly young people, would be left with nowhere to turn when the service ends.

In 2012, Dash suffered a major blow when it lost government funding and has since then relied on donations to carry out its work. It was established in 1996 as a harm reduction service, acknowledging that drug use goes on and providing information regarding the risks and consequences of drug use.
