Midnight Walk raises ?15,000 for Hospice... so far!

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2015
Hospice was thrilled with the response to its sixth annual midnight walk. The 5 mile walk from King Edward Bay House, sponsored by PokerStars through their Helping Hands programme, saw over 700 walkers take part in this lovely fun event.

Music for the warm up was provided by Laura Brooks of FitSteps Isle of Man and 3FM. The walk ended at Ballafletcher Sports Grounds with a pink cupcake, a glass of pink fizz and a goody bag.

Head of Income Generation for Hospice Mary Doyle thanked everyone involved in the event. Hospice has raised approximately ?15,000 so far with sponsorship funds and Just Giving (online giving) still to be added in so well done to everyone. She added: “It is a real community event which is growing from strength to strength.  Everyone really makes the effort to get dressed up.  The flashing bunny ears were a sight to be seen this year.”

“My only plea is for walkers to register by the closing date which is usually a week prior to the event – this allows us to get organised.  We need to do a lot of careful planning and organisation to ensure everyone’s safety – this year in addition to our generous sponsor, PokerStars and 3FM, we were involved with Chris from PSS, Peter Young from Events Solutions, Tony Mepham and Rob Cowin from Ballafletcher Sports Grounds committee, The Police, the Department of Infrastructure and St John’s Ambulance.

"In addition I would like to thank all Hospice staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this event happen. We need to ensure everything runs smoothly so registration is key! I was getting phone calls up to half an hour prior to the event!”

“Next year’s event will be on Saturday 24th September 2016 – so I would encourage all participants to get that date in their phones now!."
