Police issue warning over telephone scams

by isleofman.com 21st September 2015
The Police have confirmed that they have received reports which make it apparent that a bank telephone scam is in operation on the Island.

The scam consists of a bank customer being called and the number on their telephone is the same as their bank (the scammers have the means to transmit false numbers onto call displays). The bank customer is told that there is some sort of problem with their account and they are then encouraged to call their bank back on the same telephone whereby their bank details are asked for.

The Police have asked that you:

PLEASE do not give your bank details over the telephone;

PLEASE do not use the same telephone if you do choose to call your bank. The scammers maintain an open line on the telephone originally called to then continue the charade;

PLEASE consider NOT calling your bank at all and instead visit your branch.
