David Wozniak so much enjoyed taking part in the Great North Run he is signing up for another half marathon in a few weeks’ time.
David, who lives in Douglas, joined 57,000 other runners to cover the 13.1 mile course and raised more than ?500 for Cancer Research UK.
The race, which was won by Mo Farah, took runners along a 13.1 mile course through the city centre towards the River Tyne. The athletes travelled through Gateshead and on to the finishing line in South Shields.
David, 29, who is an advocate in the Corporate and Commercial department of Simcocks, prepared for the race by reducing his gym sessions to two a week and also did various runs in the Douglas area along the Old Castletown Road and Marine Drive with a friend to build up his stamina.
He said: “I competed in a half marathon in Los Angeles earlier this year but many people think that the Great North Run is the best half marathon in the world and I wasn’t disappointed. The atmosphere was amazing, there were so many people but we all set off in small groups, it was very well organised.
“It felt like a party, there was so much music and I saw a brass, calypso and reggae band playing by the side of the road. All the runners were chatting and I saw one runner dress as The Stig from Top Gear and someone in front of me was wearing a Minion outfit.
“The support was incredible, there were people sitting on top of bus shelters and all along the route shouting and cheering the runners along. As I left the starting line the Red Arrows were flying over the Tyne Bridge and I couldn’t have timed it better because as I crossed the finishing line they were passing over the beach at South Shields.
“I wanted to support Cancer Research UK because people close to me have been affected.
“I would really like to take part in the Wimbledon Half-Marathon which is taking place at the end of November and I am talking to some friends about taking part in the Paris Half Marathon next year.”
