The annual President’s Day Senior/ Junior tournament attracted an excellent entry of 32 club members and all agreed it was a great success. All matches were played as championship tie-breaks.
With four groups of 4 pairs a total of 24 Champions tiebreak matches were played.

After the r/robin, everyone progressed to the knock-out stage which provided some very good matches with the juniors showing the benefit of their coaching. Results 1st round Ray/Freddy bt Emma C/Jayden 10-5, Jay/Charlotte bt Ian/Ridzita 10-3, Emma R/Sam bt Bryan/Jessica 10-1,Jackie/Roch bt Anthony/Holly 10-2, Robby/AJ bt Jan/James 10-2, Barbara/Patrick bt Stuart/Sarah 10-6, Nerijus/Jack bt Sasha/Ailish 10-9, David/Robert bt Jim/Greg 10-8. Qtr finals Jay/Charlotte bt Ray/Freddy 10-8, Jackie/Roch bt Emma R/Sam 10-9, Barbara/Patrick bt Robby/ AJ 10-3, Nerijus/Jack bt David/Robert10-7. Semi-finals Jackie/Roch bt Jay/Charlotte 10-3, Nerijus/Jack bt Barbara/Patrick 10-7. In an excellent final Nerijus and Jack eventually beat Jackie and Roch10-9. The trophies were presented by Club President Bryan Sharp.
Thank you to all players for entering and contributing to a sociable fun afternoon. Thanks also to Jan for providing the refreshments, parents for making up a good size spectator group and thank you to Bryan for providing the prizes.
The Club Championships have been postponed for one week and will now take place from Saturday 3rd October to Sunday 11 October. Entries close Tuesday 29 September. Forms can be posted in the white post box or e-mailed to ianwatsonpts@manx.net.
On Friday 27September from 10am – 12noon Albany will be taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. There will be the usual social tennis plus a cake stall for which the organisers Linda Donald and Carisa Skehan would like donations. Past members, non-members and parents of juniors will be made very welcome.
