The local British Computer Society (BCS) are delighted to be welcoming Bill Mitchell, Director of BCS Academy of Computing and Jon Buttriss, CEO at BCS Learning and Development who will discuss the success and challenges for the BCS is in shaping young minds, providing work opportunities and nurturing those already in the IT profession.
As you may be aware, the BCS has been deeply engaged in shaping the UK's Computing curriculum. At the event you'll hear why the BCS has got involved with this, how well they are doing and how they are making sure that this succeeds in the long term. YOu can also hear about their Computing at School initiative, a community of over 19,000 academics, teachers, industry professionals, parents and other interested parties designed to support teachers as they engage with computing and how this initiative is available to the Isle of Man.
The presenters will also discuss BCS efforts in helping develop the profession through IT apprenticeships, Continued Professional Development, and talent development. This will include discuss SFIA, a model for describing and managing competencies for IT professionals and how this helps shape match workforce skills to business needs. All these efforts are directed to supporting the IT profession with the aim of helping us build a brighter future through education, support and learning.
The BCS are expecting a varied audience to this event, from teachers and parents, all the way to seasoned IT professionals looking to learn how the BCS is delivering value in today's world, so please book early as seats are limited.
The event is on Wednesday 23rd September. Doors open at 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start. Refreshments will be served prior to the event.
