The Isle of Man’s reputation as an outstanding venue for adventure sports will be showcased to teams from across the UK and Europe this weekend.
The Ellan Vannin Fuels Adventure Challenge will see a total of 100 young people participate in a series of events to test their athleticism, teamwork and communication skills.
Competitors from as far afield as Gibraltar, Estonia and Finland will take on challenges including sea kayaking and coasteering during a busy weekend of action.
The Adventure Challenge, which is organised by the Isle of Man Constabulary’s Police Cadets in partnership with sponsor Ellan Vannin Fuels, starts at 5pm on Friday 18 September and draws to a conclusion at lunchtime on Sunday.
The main part of the annual competition will be based at Ardwhallan Outdoor Education Centre in West Baldwin, where the young competitors will also be camping.
Teams of six will compete for a range of prizes, which will be presented by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood, Chief Constable Gary Roberts and Andy Sweetman, Sales and Marketing Manager at Ellan Vannin Fuels.
PC Michael Griffiths, Police Cadet Coordinator, said: ‘This is a tremendous event and a great opportunity to show our visitors what the Island has to offer. The Police Cadets put in a lot of effort to welcome the teams and devise a weekend of challenges in partnership with staff at Ardwhallan. The emphasis is on having fun, but there is a competitive side to the event and I’m sure all the teams will be working hard to get their hands on a trophy.’
Andy Sweetman added: ‘Ellan Vannin Fuels is committed to supporting the local community and is proud to be associated with the Adventure Challenge. This event brings together young people from all over Europe to enjoy the Island’s hospitality, beauty and outdoor lifestyle. I hope the participants have a memorable weekend and make some lasting friendships.’
