Lowest August figure for unemployed in five years

Figures for the Island's unemployed showed the lowest number for the month of August for the last five years.

At the end of August 2015 there was 776 persons registered as unemployed which was a decrease of 14 persons from last month.

Other key figures

167 persons signed on to the unemployment register during the month; whilst 181 left the register.

68% of the unemployed are male (528) and 32% are female (248).

The unemployment rate is 1.7%; the rate is the proportion of economically active population registered as unemployed. This is a decrease of 0.1% from the previous month.

735 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month.

At the end of July 391 positions were still vacant at the Job Centre; of these 74% were full-time positions (290) and 26% part-time positions (101).

The largest age category for unemployed persons is persons aged 20-24, with this group comprising of 18% of the total unemployed.
