Coastguard operations officer Michael MacDonald said: ‘The service relies totally on volunteer teams, without them we could not operate, so I am proud and honoured that they have been recognised as Best Turned Out Unit.’
Presenting the awards Madam President said: ‘Tynwald Day not only brings the Isle of Man community together in celebration but it also provides an opportunity for service organisations to take a central role in contributing to the ceremonial proceedings which are so much part of our National Day. My thanks go to Isle of Man Coastguard for turning out with a strong contingent on what was a very miserable day, and I congratulate them on their achievement and for the dedication shown in providing a vital volunteer search and rescue service.’
