The Manx Cancer Help Golf Tournament sponsored by Continent 8 Technologies was held on Friday 17th July at the Castletown Golf Links and raised over ?5,000 for the charity, a fantastic success for such a deserving charity.
Fourteen teams took part in windy but sunny conditions in a Texas scramble competition. The competition was hard fought with the spectators in the clubhouse following the action on the GameBook app. After eighteen tough holes SMP Partners came home winners with stunning net score of 17 under par.
Peter Williams, Director of Global Sales, said, “We had a fantastic day at a beautiful venue but the success for the day was raising over ?5,000 for a charity whose services will no doubt touch us all in some way at some time in our lives”.
In addition to prizes for the winning team there was a hole in one prize on each of the course’s par three holes with fabulous prizes sponsored by Browne Craine & Co, as well as beat the Pro on the 13th. SMP’s Steve McGowan won the straightest drive and Jamie Crellin won the nearest pin on the 8th.
Johnny Evans, Castletown Golf Link Golf Pro, added: “Manx Cancer Help Golf day at Castletown Golf Links saw players and sponsors enjoy the novel use of the Golf GameBook technology app as teams recorded their scores hole by hole, and provided fun banter between teams during the game. The leaderboard was visible to all during play, which made for a good competitive spirit and added to the excitement."
Continent 8 Account Director, Roberta Castle said, “Many thanks to the companies and teams who supported the Manx Cancer Help Charity Golf Day, it was a fantastic day. A special thanks to the team at the Golf Links who provided a fantastic day out for everyone as I am sure everyone involved would agree.”
Ally Martin of Manx Cancer Help said, “The amount raised on the day will significantly contribute to our ongoing service development and important specialist psychological therapies Manx Cancer Help provides to anyone affected by cancer on the Isle of Man.”
