Island-based, award-winning and internationally published poet Usha Kishore is launching her second poetry collection at Myth Makers at Manx Litfest. This free live poetry event will celebrate myth in all its forms – from ancient Indian folklore to modern urban legends.
Supported by Isle of Man Poetry Society, the event is open to everyone and will take place at Noa Bakehouse on Sunday 27 September between 4 and 6pm.
Usha will be reading from her collection, ‘Night Sky Between The Stars’, supported by poets Janet Lees, Fiona Gell, Jeff Garland and James Penn, who will be reading their own myth-inspired poems. There will also be music and soul-stirring songs from Sue Coyle and Ian Pilbeam.
John Quirk, Manx Litfest Director, said, ‘Poetry has always been a big part of the Litfest vision and we’re delighted to support local poets who are winning international recognition for their work.’
In praise of Usha’s collection, celebrated poet and critic Bashabi Fraser said, ‘Drenched in the splendour of monsoonal rhythms, these poems shatter the silence of centuries…in tune with the dawn sun and the night sky.’
