Albany LTC News

by isleofman.com 27th August 2015

Congratulations to our Albany ‘A’ team ladies who eventually managed to complete their fixtures in a re-arranged match last Thursday v Castletown B. Using the indoor court they won 4—0 which was enough to clinch the title. Our ladies B won Div 2 our men’s A won Div 1, finished 2nd in Div 2 and won Div 4 so well done to all concerned especially those who “stepped up to the mark” when our top players were away.

One of our juniors, Roch Mirski (10) has recently played in a UK tournament – South East Club Tour Virgin Active in Croydon, Surrey and although the youngest of 13 players in the Under 14 event he finished 4th. Well done Roch – all that practicing I’ve seen you doing at the club is working.

Whilst on tournaments here are some dates for your diary: Presidents Day – Senior/Junior tournament will be held on Sunday 13 September from 3pm. Entry fee ?3. Rules – r/robin tournament every senior has a junior partner, juniors who have played in the league will play as seniors and seniors only have a 1st serve. Club Closed Championships sponsored by Auxesia will be held 26 September – 4 October. Entry is free and entries close 20 September. Forms will be in the club house next week or you can enter by e-mail: ianwatsonpts@manx.net. The annual Albany Flitch for couples is to be held on Sunday 11 October – 3pm. Entry fee ?6 per pair, only one half has to be a club member, it’s a handicap format and is classed as a “Good shot darling” fun event. The Annual Auxesia Junior Open tournament will be held this year from 17 – 24 October with entries closing on 12 October. The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 28 October in the lounge at 7pm and the committee urge all members to attend. The Race Night fund raiser will be on Friday 20 November – 7pm in the lounge with John from Morrison Photos providing the races. The club’s under 27 singles will be held during the Christmas/New Year break so that our younger members who are at University can all enter.

Maintenance of the club’s excellent facilities is now a priority as the clubhouse is nearly 15 years old and the paintwork is looking tired. Do we have any members who like decorating? If so contact our facilities manager, Bryan on 861497 – he will be pleased to hear from you. Hiring a painter and decorator is a bit beyond club funds so volunteers are needed.
