There will be a public bat walk to mark International Bat Night in Andreas on Saturday 29th August.
Meeting at 8pm at Andreas sports field (grid ref: SC417994), and following a general talk on bat behavior and biology, members of the Manx Bat Group will lead a walk around the village looking and listening for a variety of species of bat. Members of the public will be able to hear them using one of the Bat Group’s bat detectors and Bat Group members will be able to identify which species are being picked up.
This celebration of bats is one of many held by bat groups throughout Europe to coincide with International Bat Night (formerly European Bat Night) which is organised by Eurobats. In the United Kingdom, the Bat Conservation Trust, of which the Manx Bat Group is a partner, aims to encourage thousands of people across the country to see and hear bats in their natural environment by taking part in a range of events organised by local bat groups, wildlife trusts, countryside rangers and other organisations across the country.
The Manx Bat Group welcomes everyone along to this event which is free of charge.
