This year, 2015, marks the 20th Anniversary of Manx Pink Floyd tribute band, Pigs On The Wing, who formed in the Isle of Man in 1995.
Originally comprising Pete Williamson - vocals, and guitar, James Craig - guitar, Colin Simkiss - keys, Jon Simkiss - bass and "Mac" McDonald on drums. The Idea for the band came from hearing Pink Floyd's "Pulse" album when Pete and James were still at QE2 School in Peel, and their debut was at the Iron Pier in Ramsey.
The band, who have an incredibly loyal local following, many of whom have never missed a gig, have played the Villa many times, including, towards the end of the last century! a sell-out concert in the Villa Marina Gardens on Mad Sunday to a capacity crowd of 4500.
Although there have been quite a few personnel changes through the years, founder members Pete and James remain the driving force of the band, making sure that both the performance, and the stage show, are as faithful to the original band as possible.
The line up now includes Richard (Dick) Raine on Bass, Chris Glaister on Keys, and new boy Steve Leach on Drums.
This Anniversary performance, in the more intimate atmosphere of the Gaiety Theatre, and with Justin McMullin and his ELS team providing sound, lighting, projections, and lasers, promises to be even better, and will be the only chance to see the band this year.
This year, on backing vocals, a whole family will be joining the band on stage! Sisters Jo Callister, and Louise Earner, who did such a fantastic job when POTW did a benefit show last year for the lovely, Kath Crowe, and a debut performance by Jo’s husband Juan Callister.
Once again, leading London Sax player, and all round nice guy, Brian Foley, will fly in for the gig, have a rehearsal, do his thing, have a couple of beers and fly off again!
Join Pigs On The Wing, for their anniversary celebrations at the Gaiety Theatre on Thursday 27th August. Doors open at 7.00pm, and support will be provided by Pigs guitarist James’s side project, In The Blood, who will be playing a host of their own great original songs, and are definitely not to be missed!
Tickets are priced at ?15.00 each, and there is a ?10 concession for under 16’s.
