Views invited on future use of Glen Wyllin

by isleofman.com 20th August 2015
The public is invited to have its say over the future use of Glen Wyllin.

The glen and campsite are leased by Michael Commissioners but the lease expires in May 2016 and this has prompted the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) to review its future.

A public consultation starts today and runs until 1st October.

Options outlined in the consultation document include:

• Continuing camping, allowing a tenant to operate a registered campsite
• Introducing log cabins
• Introducing ‘glamping’
• A mixture of the above or some other uses.

However, DEFA emphasises that it would welcome all suggestions.

It hopes as many people as possible, including visitors to the Festival of Motorcycling, will contribute views.

DEFA will invite tenders for the lease of the area once a decision on its future is made.

David Cretney MLC, Member of DEFA with responsibility for Forestry, Amenity and Lands, said: ‘Glen Wyllin is a popular area for recreation and economically important in terms of tourism and we would welcome the views of residents and visitors on how it is used in future.’

The consultation can be viewed by visiting www.gov.im/consultations.gov

Views should be returned to:
