PO chiefs knew of problems - claim

by isleofman.com 19th August 2015

Ramsey Courthouse Ltd says Post Office authorities knew there were issues over a deal to run services in the town as long ago as the end of June.

The company was created in a community initiative to try to save the Post Office counter in the courthouse building.

But the deal fell through a few days ago. The Post Office is now seeking new tenders with a closing date of August 28.

Nigel Malpass of RCL said: 'The Chairman and Deputy Chairman (of the Post Office) have said on MTTV that the first they knew of the problems was just a week ago. On the other hand I emailed Mike Kelly on the 29th of June outlining the issues and deal breakers we were having to deal with.

'We really did want this joint project to be a win/win result for everyone and the board along with the team members still hope that the residents of the north can have a suitable post office service somewhere in town, as well as the courthuse being fully used a community hub.'

A new group called the 'Friends of Ramsey Courthouse' has been created by locals and is seeking charitable status.

Mr Malpass said RCL had been restricted by a non-disclosure agreement with the Post Office, stating: 'As you would imagine we are constantly being asked by many why RCL will not be providing the sub post office services within the courthouse. Having seen and listened to the various interviews the PO Board have given, the 25 member team is now preparing a FAQ information sheet that we will circulate to all in the hope it will help satisfy this need.'

He gave his personal thanks during the negotiation process to Chief Minister Allan Bell, PO chairman Graham Cregeen, Tony Wild, Ian Notman and Ramsey Commissioners 'who have tried hard to help both sides make this happen'.
