Isle of Man Railways 2016 calendar now on sale

Isle of Man Railways has unveiled its scenic calendar for 2016.

Featuring previously unpublished images and key dates in next year’s heritage railways’ season, the calendar is on sale, priced ?5, from main bus and rail stations plus the Welcome Centre in Douglas Sea Terminal and the Steam Railway Museum shop at Port Erin.

Selected images include a dramatic cover shot of steam loco No. 10 G H Wood passing a crashed Spitfire from the Island at War event. The photograph by John Turton also features as August, highlighting that Island at War will be staged 20-21 August in 2016 (it’s on over the weekend of 22-23 August this year).

May has a striking image by David Lloyd-Jones of MER car 21 crossing the newly refurbished Ballure Bridge while the start of the season month of March features ‘dropping the fires’ by Andrew Scarffe, taken during Easter this year. Both photographers have kindly contributed three images each to the calendar.

January – No. 10 G H Wood passes No. 13 Kissack at Castletown during the 2015 Rush Hour event (Thomas Sinden)

February – MER car 2 approaches Ballaragh with two open waggons (Andrew Scarffe)

March – Dropping the fires, Easter 2015 (Andrew Scarffe)

April – Caledonia arriving at Castletown Station with the dining train (David Lloyd-Jones)

May – MER Car 21 crosses newly refurbished Ballure Bridge, Ramsey (David Lloyd-Jones)

June – No. 12 Hutchinson at Port Erin waiting to be coupled up to a train for Douglas (Mike Howland)

July – Locomotives No. 8 Fenella and No. 10 G H Wood wait to depart Douglas with a heavy train (David Lloyd-Jones)

August – No. 10 G H Wood steams past a crashed Spitfire during Island at War (John Turton)

September – MER car 7 and open trailer unloading passengers at Laxey Station on a warm summer day (John Turton)

October – Fenella No. 8 on an intermediate Ultimate Driving Experience (John Turton)

November – SMR car 1 near Sheepfold with a service to Snaefell Summit (Andrew Scarffe)

December – Locomotives Loch and Hutchinson await Santa Train duty at Santon (Tia Glover)

Isle of Man Railways is now accepting images for the 2017 calendar. Hi res photographs should be emailed to Anji.Street@gov.im by 30 September 2015 for consideration.
