The tram driver responsible for the overturning of a Manx Electric Railway carriage last month has resigned.
Transport authorities say their investigation into the derailment, that occurred on July 7 on the line next to the main road through Laxey, has been completed.
The tram toppled on to its side during a routine shunting manoeuvre. There were no passengers on board at the time. Transport engineers say it was the result of a failure by staff to follow the operating procedure.
Director of public transport, Ian Longworth said: 'The derailment resulted from the trailer fouling the points because a crew member did not follow the correct procedure.
'The matter is now closed and there are no implications for our public tram services, which continue to operate safely according to the published timetable.’
