Applications Open for the 2015/16 Microgaming Bursary

by isleofman.com 6th August 2015
Launched in 2014, the Microgaming Bursary initiative provides funding for exceptional students from the Isle of Man whose financial circumstances may otherwise preclude them from attending or continuing at university. Last year, four gifted students benefited from the scheme.

Running for the second consecutive year, the award covers accommodation and essential living costs (excluding course fees) up to ?6,000 per annum. Certain criteria must be met; the student must be eligible for a DEC maintenance grant and have obtained a place on an approved undergraduate degree course. Effective from September, the bursary is managed and distributed by the Department of Education and Children (DEC). Closing date for applications is 21st August 2015.

Andrew Shipley, Legal and Administrative Manager at the DEC, commented: “What Microgaming is offering is a fantastic opportunity for local students, who are potentially unable to attend university for financial reasons, to realise their dream. We know A-Level results are around the corner, so this is an apt time to open applications for the academic year ahead. We encourage anyone who feels they meet the criteria to get in touch.”

Claire Coleman, Head of Microgaming PlayItForward, added: “Echoing what we said last year when we launched the Microgaming Bursary initiative, we want to provide the island’s next generation of leaders, creators and thinkers with an opportunity of a lifetime, bringing home-grown talent to the fore. To be able to help four students attend university last year was an absolute honour, and we look forward to assisting a group of students again this year.”
