Last Thursday the club entertained 11 children from Belarus who have been on the Island for a month’s holiday organised by the Friends of Children of Chernobyl. Two hours of tennis coaching and competition organised by Sarah Breed and Marc Chinn appeared very enjoyable, especially when HE Lt Governor Adam Wood decided to join in, with 12 yr old Diana probably having the longest rally. The children were given lunch provided by some of the Friday Morning Ladies and gifts of pens plus ice lollies before they left – with the usual very loud “Thank you very much” – I’m sure they get louder each year. Albany has already offered to do the same next year.

The IOMLTA Mixed League fixtures started this week with Albany A hosts to Castletown A the result ending in a draw. There was a fine example of never giving up when Ian Watson and Alison King pulled back from 1-4 down to win a set on the tie-break and then in their 2nd set they were 1-5 down but took that set 7/5. Our 2nd pair Andy Murray and Kirsten Hall just lost one of their sets 4/6 so we were close to a win over our closest rivals in the league. Our team was somewhat depleted with Sean Drewry competing in the UK, Marc Chinn back at “UNI “and also Laura Feely away and Jane Reynolds injured. So well done to all players.

This Saturday we have a team playing in the triangular match for the Todmorden Shield which is a played each year between Albany, Castletown and Ramsey. This year the venue is Castletown.
