Rotary puts in a good word!

by isleofman.com 4th August 2015

The Rotary Club of Douglas is spearheading a new literacy campaign by presenting Dictionaries 4 Life to local schoolchildren.

Thousands of good words were ?uploaded' to forty-nine school leavers at Scooil yn Jubilee recently when they were presented with the Usborne 288-page English Illustrated Dictionary, produced especially for Rotary. Plates inside the book record the event.

Chairman of Douglas Rotary Club, Kevin Kneen, said the dictionaries would be a useful part of the children's toolkit as they move up to secondary school. ?It demonstrates a real commitment on behalf of the Club to supporting children in the local community,' he said.

Douglas Rotary Club has forged a special link with Scooil yn Jubilee, where ?reading buddies' have been helping children for several months. The Club is now looking forward to developing the link further in the future.
