Hospice Isle of Man is thrilled that local lady, Sandra Corrigan is raising funds for them.  Her work colleague Nicky Davenport is raising funds for the Isle of Man Sea Cadets.  Both are employees of Bibby Ship Management (WE) Ltd which is part of Bibby Line Group.

During October 2015 they will both embark on a trekking and camping challenge in the Grand Canyon. Walking 10-15 miles each day in 80 degrees heat and camping (sharing a tent) in a Native American camp site by night. This is an adventure, but primarily a challenge for both of these ladies. Camping, intense heat and outdoor toilets would not figure on a list of musts for either on a trip normally, however the opportunity to fundraise for their charities makes this trip a must.

They could not do this without the support of the employer. In 2007 Bibby Line Group began the ‘Giving Something Back’ programme for its employees. This is a unique initiative, aiming to harness the passion of its people and support them to fundraise and volunteer for the charities they choose.

The programme offers fantastic opportunities for employees across Bibby’s diverse business to come together, to complete fundraising challenges and legacy projects in the UK and abroad and these are known as Central Events.

The programme works by each person raising ?1,750 (in this case) for their chosen charity and this amount being match funded by Bibby Line Group. The match funding element pays for the travel, transfers and guides. However travel from the Isle of Man to London has to be paid for by Sandra and Nicky and they have to provide all of their own equipment.

Nicky and Sandra have to take the time out of their annual leave allowance to take part in the challenge, however they both see this as an amazing opportunity to stretch themselves and step out of their comfort zone.

“The priority is to raise as much as we can for our chosen charities” commented Sandra, “therefore this challenge is a win, win for us both”.

Sandra was on the reserve list for this event and only discovered 2 weeks ago (after someone else dropped out) that she had a place – she has until 17th August to raise the minimum donation of ?1,750 which is a challenge in itself.

Every penny they raise is donated to their charities, which they felt was important to point out. Both ladies have supported Hospice before.
