Citywing was delighted to welcome Elliot Archer, a student from Pate's Grammar School, Cheltenham, to the Island last month for a work experience placement.
Elliot, aged 17, is an aspiring pilot and his time with Citywing helped him learn more about the aviation industry and gain invaluable hands-on experience.
Elliot said: ‘This was my first visit to the Isle of Man, and a very memorable one – I could not have been made to feel more welcome. I had a great introduction into the operation of Citywing, and it was interesting to see the different areas of the industry.’
During his work experience, Elliot gained insight into flight planning and management, and learnt about METARs (Meteorological Aerodrome Reports) and TAFFs (Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts) and how to read them. He also paid a visit to Air Traffic Control, Isle of Man Airport’s Fire Service, the Met Office, Rendezvous Handling and spent some time in the cockpit of a Let410 aircraft.
Elliot added: ‘My work experience with Citywing has given me a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes in aviation, and has made me appreciate the variety of roles within the industry. I had the most enjoyable week on the Island, and I definitely hope to become a pilot and work in aviation after school.’
Citywing Managing Director David Buck said: ‘We are always open to consider work placement requests from students on and off-Island – not only does it provide a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about the aviation industry, it also helps to strengthen our relationships with UK destinations.
‘We are so pleased that Elliot enjoyed his time with us – he worked very hard during his placement and was enthusiastic about all of his tasks, which we hope were of value in helping him to decide where his career in aviation lies. If you or someone that you know is interested in undertaking a work experience placement with Citywing, please do get in touch.’
