The Manx Wildlife Trust is delighted to announce the winners of a recent design a logo for a re-usable bag competition, held in support of the charity’s Wave Goodbye to Waste campaign.
The purpose of the campaign is to highlight the problems caused by marine litter and, in particular, to encourage members of the public to reduce the number of plastic carrier bags they use. According to research carried out by the Manx Wildlife Trust, the average family uses 300 plastic shopping bags per year, the vast majority of which are only used once and take up to 100 years to decompose.
Competition entrants, aged between 4 and 18 years old, were asked to design a logo for a re-usable bag with the artwork to be in keeping with the Wave Goodbye to Waste campaign theme. There was a great deal of support for the competition with many schools and individuals taking part. As such, it was a real challenge for the judges to decide on the winners. After much debate, the judging panel, which included Ian Dunbar, Executive Director of Colas (IOM) Ltd who kindly sponsored the competition prizes, and Bill Dale of Beach Buddies, selected the three winning entries. Prizes, consisting of a selection of wildlife-related items and goody bags, were later awarded to Martha Done, Abbie Jackson and Jack Christian. Martha’s design was chosen as the overall winning entry and will shortly be printed onto re-usable bags to be sold in the Wildlife Shop in Peel.
The Manx Wildlife Trust would like to say thank you to everyone who took part in the competition, a big well done to the winners and a special thank you to Colas (IOM) Ltd for their support.
