Access to Silverdale Glen improved

by isleofman.com 28th July 2015
Visitors to Silverdale Glen will be able to access the glen with ease following the construction of a new car park and footpath.

The new car park, which is large enough to accommodate 30 cars and 2 coaches, is operational now and will help to prevent congestion created by vehicles parking on the narrow and twisting roads leading to the glen.

The entrance is on the A3 Foxdale Road with a pedestrian only footpath from the car park to the boating lake in the glen.

The parking area been constructed with a wide tarmac entrance allowing easy access and a locally sourced compacted stone surface. The new footpath into the glen is covered with the same surface making it suitable for families with pushchairs. There are two parking spaces for disabled drivers adjacent to the cafe building in the glen.

Member with responsibility for Forestry, Amenity and Lands, David Cretney MLC said: “Silverdale is a magical place with many happy memories for generations. I am delighted that the development of this new car park and footpath will make access to the glen much easier and safer for families.”

“The increased number of parking spaces together with coach facilities will also assist the businesses situated at the glen, particularly at busy times, as well as encouraging families to enjoy all the glen has to offer.”

Silverdale Glen, which follows the Silverburn River, has at its heart a boating lake together with a children's playground including a unique Victorian water-powered roundabout and a large grassy paddock for games and picnicking. Businesses include a cafe, ice cream manufacturer, pottery centre, artist’s gallery and shops.
