Former commissioner Penny Hardman will represent the Liberal Vannin Party in the Peel by-election on September 10.
Ms Hardman says one of her priorities for the constituency will be finding a solution to a sewerage problem she says has existed since she was a child.
She says: 'I am proud to be Manx and I come from a proud Manx sea-faring family. I am an educated, strong woman with experience working in the financial sector, the charitable sector and as a Peel Town Commissioner.
'I have also run my own business and I have gained in-depth knowledge as a civil servant of how government works across numerous departments. I want to represent the views of my constituents at a national level and I will do this by listening and acting as their political voice.'
The by-election follows the recent election of Education Minister Tim Crookall to the Legislative Council.
Ms Hardman says the Liberal Vannin party fulfills an important role in questioning the way the government represents the people of the Isle of Man.
She said: 'I believe that we deserve a democratic government in which an alternative voice exists to counter the views of the ruling politicians and to challenge government decisions for the betterment of our Island.'
