A series of craft days, using materials collected on Manx beaches, has been organised by the charity Beach Buddies for the summer holidays.
Shells, driftwood, sea glass, rope, fish nets and various other items found on the beaches will be used to create decorative items during the summer months, based at the charity’s visitor centre at Niarbyl.
The 4-hour afternoon sessions are open to all ages, with a variety of dates between now and the end of August. “It is primarily aimed at children and families, but all ages are welcome,” said a spokesman for Beach Buddies.
The craft sessions are fully supervised, and involve simple and safe techniques to create items to take home, included in the ?10 fee. Beach Buddies also has public liability insurance of ?1 million.
Items to be made include driftwood Christmas trees, heart-shaped shell sculptures, sea glass circles, scallop shell swirls, queenie shell flowers, “queenie angels” and various driftwood designs.
However, Beach Buddies particularly encourages visitors to make their own creations, using their imagination. All materials are included in the fee.
Free cordial drinks are included. Beach Buddies recommends the Niarbyl Bay Restaurant and Cafe for meals and drinks. (phone number: 843300). Please note, there will be fresh water and cleaning materials, but the Beach Buddies Visitor Centre does not have toilet facilities.
