Steam Packet supports Manx team in Three Peaks Challenge

by isleofman.com 27th July 2015
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting a local team which will attempt to climb three of the highest peaks in the British Isles in just 24 hours.

The 12-strong team, all colleagues at Swagelok in Tromode, will head to the UK in September to take on the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

The Steam Packet Company is supporting the effort by assisting with travel.

On 12th September the team will bid to ascend Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, and will be raising money for two Island charities through sponsorship as they climb.

Team member Andy Quirk said: ‘We are raising money for two local charities; Eva Rose’s Garden, a multi-sensory garden set up to help the residents and visitors at Rebecca House children’s hospice, and Skils, a charity set up to promote independence and education for disabled residents of the Isle of Man.

‘We chose these charities because they are local, and also some of our associates have a personal connection with them.’

He added: ‘It’s going to be a huge challenge. Physically, we have to get ourselves fit enough to climb three mountains, plus cope with added strains like lack of sleep and no proper meals for 24 hours. However, we are looking forward to this epic challenge, and hope we raise a lot of money for two very worthy causes.

‘We’re delighted with the support we’ve had so far and we’d like to thank the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for helping with our travel costs. Their help is hugely appreciated. We’d also like to thank 4HIRE, for helping with the cost of a minibus, and Swagelok Ltd, for donating up to ?500 towards the two charities.’

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘The team is taking on quite a challenge by attempting to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours, and they are doing it for two very worthwhile local causes.

‘We’re pleased to be helping out by assisting the team with travel costs and wish them all the best for the Three Peaks Challenge.'
