Celton Manx sponsors Relay For Life Isle of Man for fifth successive year

by isleofman.com 24th July 2015
Celton Manx is to sponsor Relay For Life Isle of Man for the fifth successive year.

The Cancer Research UK overnight community event is on Saturday August 29 at the National Sports Centre and serves as both a celebration of life and a flagship fundraising occasion for the whole community.

In 2014 Relay For Life Isle of Man raised ?85,380.93, a record sum in the event’s history.

Event chairman Nicola Walkingshaw, who remains an active member of the organising committee, said: ‘In 2014 and 2013 thanks to the generosity of the people of the Isle of Man and the continued support of Celton Manx we exceeded our targets by huge margins, so naturally we’re looking to repeat that success this year and beat the ?85,000 we’ve been challenged to raise.

‘What’s really testimony to the overwhelming support the event engenders - especially at a time when private individuals and businesses are having to reassess their charitable giving priorities - is that in the five years of Relay For Life Isle of Man we’ve raised an amazing ?250,000 and smashed all our targets.

‘We’re raising funds year round but the relay is very much our flagship event, which last year attracted more than 700 people.

‘The Isle of Man relay is now one of the top-ranking in the north-west region due, in no small part, to the support of Celton Manx whose sponsorship helps raise the event’s profile, and the enthusiasm with which our volunteers and everyone who takes part get behind the campaign.’

Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘At the heart of Relay For Life Isle of Man and Cancer Research UK is the unshakeable belief that: “Together we can beat cancer sooner”. It is a belief Celton Manx is pleased to be supporting once again to help drive the organisation’s vital research.

‘The commitment shown each year by those on the organising committee and their many volunteers has helped not only to raise a quarter of a million pounds for Cancer Research UK but also to create an inspirational community event which lends heightened visibility to the charity’s lifesaving work that’s bringing hope to all those affected by the disease.’
