You will have to move fast to enter this year’s Tough Mann Adventure Challenge in association with Manx Telecom.
The event is a 10km assault course race which includes 25 obstacles such as muddy bogs, rope scrambles and monkey bars, and takes place on Saturday August 1 at Ballamoar Farm, Ballaugh. The final entry deadline is midnight on Sunday July 26, but as the event is strictly limited to a maximum of 750 competitors, organisers say that entries may close earlier if that limit is reached before July 26. No late entries will be accepted. The challenge is open to anyone who will be 16 or over on August 1 this year.
You can sign-up as an individual, or in a team of three. It costs ?45 for individuals and ?126 for teams. All entrants have a chance win some great prizes from Manx Telecom with Sony smartphones and fitness bands being awarded to the fastest man and fastest woman in the under 21, 21-40, and over 40s categories. All three members of the fastest team will each receive a Sony smartphone and fitness band. Trophies will be presented to the fastest man and fastest woman, and there’s also a trophy for the winning team. Grit and determination, combined with a sense of fun and fair play, are qualities which are shared by everyone involved with the Tough Mann Challenge – so this year there will be a ‘Spirit of the Event’ award for the competitor who best demonstrates these values. All finishers over the age of 18 will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a free Bushy’s beer (finishers aged under 18 will receive a free soft drink). The organisers have put procedures in place to make sure the correct drink is given to each finisher.
Earlier this year Manx Telecom announced a three year deal to sponsor the event until 2017. In addition to providing financial support to help organisers grow the event, the company is also providing technical assistance to help cope with the complex logistics of running the event, collating results, and helping to promote the event via Manx Telecom’s media channels. Tough Mann is also being supported by event partners including Paddy Power, Paragon Recruitment, and Manx Independent Carriers to name just a few. Event organisers are asking every competitor to try and raise ?10 for The Children's Centre to help support the charity’s many projects which help families and children across the Island. Entrants can collect donations with the form that they will receive on the sign-on evening, or you can donate directly by going to http://www.thechildrenscentre.org.im/support-our-work/donate-online/.
