Peel & St John’s are the new leaders of the Isle of Man Premiership. On Saturday they beat Crosby by eight wickets while rivals Cronkbourne lost the top spot after defeat by Castletown.
Choosing to bat first at Mullen-e-Cloie, Crosby were soon in desperate trouble at 23 for 5 following a blistering onslaught by Dan Hawke and Nick Hawke.
Stu Morris withstood the barrage to make 14 not out, but the side were dismissed for 64. Dan Hawke took 3 -15, Nick Hawke 3 -16 and Akkie van den Berg mopped up the tail with 3 -22.
The Saints wasted no time in knocking off the runs. Alex Williamson clattered 6 fours in his 37 not out as the target was reached in under ten overs. Jack Telford was the pick of the bowlers with 2 -7.
An inspired Richard Jackson starred with both bat and ball for Castletown. After just 90 mins play at King William’s College, his team was reeling on the ropes in their match with Cronkbourne.
They had struggled to 85 for 6, but were then rescued by a great stand of 107 by Christian Steriopulos and skipper Jackson.
They found batting difficult at times, mainly against a testing spell from Matty Ansell. However the pair battled away against a good attack to see the Town end on 194 for 8.
Steriopulos made an excellent 53 and Jackson was in fine form with 42 before being run out in the final over. He then opened the Castletown bowling and set the game alight with two wickets in his first over.
Mark Williams chipped in with two more and the Douglas team were in a critical position at 24 for 5 when Carl Wagstaffe fell for 13.
Cronkbourne had no answer to Jackson who continued on the rampage to claim a startling 6 for 28 as Cronkbourne were shot out for 52.
Andy Coulson bowled Valkyres to their first victory of the season with a fine spell of spin bowling at Tromode. He took 5 for 19 against Ramsey who ended on 72 all out.
James Arneil hit a defiant 23, but the total was not enough to stop Valkyres making 73 for 2 for victory by 8 wickets. At the end Ryan Windell was 30 not out and Chris Langford 19 not out.
