Mannin Retail will take over Post Office services in central Douglas from September, it's been announced today.
The closure of the main branch in Regent Street is a cost-cutting exercise, with services set to be provided from the nearby Spar shop in Strand Street.
The Regent Street operation and the Post Office in Parliament Street, Ramsey, accounted for two-thirds of annual losses of ?750,000.
However, a public outcry has seen the Ramsey branch saved by a local consortium.
Post Office chairman Graham Cregeen MHK said: 'We are pleased that the contract has been signed with Mannin Retail Ltd to provide postal services in central Douglas at what will remain the Island’s biggest and busiest Post Office. Mannin Retail have experience of running five other Post Offices to a high standard.
'With a number of our employees having chosen to take up positions with Mannin Retail, we are confident this transition will be as smooth as possible for our customers.'
PO chief executive Mike Kelly is pictured sealing the deal for the Douglas operation with managing director of Mannin Retail Peter Whittaker.
