Over two hundred spectators flocked to Great Meadow, Castletown, to watch three corporate teams battle it out in a polo challenge to raise funds for The Children’s Centre. The tournament was run on a round robin league format between Ramsey Crookall & Co, plan.com and Miracles Recruitment. Members of each team were made up with all levels of ability from novices to more experienced riders, and were joined by a professional player in each of the matches.
The competition was very close with all three teams drawing on points after playing each other in matches consisting of two chukkas (a seven and a half minute period), with Miracles Recruitment and Ramsey Crookall & Co being declared joint winners after finishing equal on points, goals scored, and goal difference.
Neil Kelly, plan.com’s Finance Director and a player in the challenge, commented: “It was an incredible experience, five days ago I had never been on a horse before and now, after three lessons, I’m taking part in a match. It’s testament to Cameron’s coaching and how well behaved these ponies are that a complete beginner can get on and have a go. The whole team thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to do it again!”
Frazer Houston, the club’s General Manager, said: “We were delighted to help raise money for a local charity and very grateful for the level of support received from the public, as well as those enjoying the corporate hospitality. We must also say a big thank you to A3 Island Marquees and Riley’s Garden and Lifestyle Centre for their generous support. The charity day provided some very close competition with all of the teams drawing on points at the end of the day making it all the more exciting. We have had lots of positive feedback and are looking forward to future events.”
Juana Warburton, Development Manager at The Children’s Centre, thanked Triskelion Polo Club, all the teams, and spectators for contributing to a fantastic event and helping to raise funds for The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects Mobex, Out2Play, Child Contact Centre, Thriving Families, Community Development and Community Farm.
