The Inclusion Programme at The Children’s Centre Community Farm is now into its third successful year. The full Programme starts in September but before that there are a series of taster sessions for anyone who thinks they may be interested in joining the scheme.
The taster sessions are aimed at over 18’s in the Island’s disability community, which includes people with any disability or learning difficulty.
Sessions this summer will be held 2pm-4pm on July 28th, August 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th and September 1st and 8th. There is a nominal charge of ?2 per person per session.
Activities include animal husbandry, horticulture, team building, craft work, workshop skills, conservation and using farm grown produce to cook meals.
The full programme starts from September 28th and will run until July 2016.
The Farm’s Inclusion Officer, Llinos Ellis, explained the positive impact of the Inclusion Programme: “We have seen a huge improvement in individuals taking part as they have blossomed and increased in confidence, resilience and resourcefulness. Some group members have gone on to become supported volunteers at events held at The Farm, and the aim is now for some to work towards work placements and employment. Open Awards have been undertaken in Horticulture Skills and Developing Skills for Employment.
“We would welcome anyone who thinks they can benefit from the programme to come along and meet us at one of the taster sessions to see for themselves the benefits it can bring, and ask us any questions they may have.”
