The junior children at Ballasalla School were some of the first to have a chance to see and use the Code Bus that visited the school last week as part of Science Week.
Pupils used touch screen computers to access various applications and had the opportunity to try out virtual reality goggles, remote controlled robots and even watch a remote controlled drone in action. While half the class were investigating the facilities on the Bus the other half were given an introductory lesson in coding in Scratch.
The Code Bus is a venture initiated by the Manx ICT Association (MICTA) and Connect to Charity supported by several local companies.
Kurt Roosen (CEO MICTA) said, “Our first visit to a school has been really successful. We are delighted to have been able to take part in Science Week at Ballasalla School. It has been very rewarding to see the children really enjoying the technology we have on the bus.”
Headteacher, Jamie Cox said, “It has been great to have the Code Bus here as part of our Science Week. The children have had a fantastic opportunity to experience some cutting edge technology in a fun and interactive environment.”
Pupil, Thomas Young, aged 11 said, “That bus was well good!” whilst Pupil, Terri McCormick, aged 11 said, “The goggles were really good. It felt like you were actually on a real rollercoaster!”
