Ramsey RNLI all-weather lifeboat, RNLB Ann & James Ritchie, launched at around 9pm yesterday evening, Thursday 9 July, to go to the assistance of a surfboarder off Port Lewaigue near Ramsey.
A concerned member of the public raised the alarm after they had for sometime observed the surfer apparently drifting helplessly approximately one mile off Port Lewaigue. Anyone who observes someone in trouble at sea is advised to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Following a consultation with the local Coastguard it was decided to launch Ramsey lifeboat.
Upon reaching the scene the lifeboat found that the surfboarder at the time was not in any actual distress. However Coxswain Mark Kenyon was extremely concerned about leaving him as night was approaching, the tide was ebbing and the offshore wind increasing. The surfer very sensibly agreed to come aboard the lifeboat and, together with his surfboard, was safely delivered to the beach.
The lifeboat and her volunteer crew returned to station.
