Ramsey-based AFD Software Limited have specialised in postcode software for over twenty years – in fact they distribute data on the 29 million delivery addressees in the UK from the Royal Mail’s mainframe computer files, to everyone who wants to use it on their web-sites or in their record systems.
“During those twenty years, there has been enormous change in the postal service. As far more people shop online, there has been a shift from carrying day-to-day communication in letters and invoices etc, to an explosion in the carriage of parcels and packets” says group MD, David Dorricott.
“We’ve been following the progress of Ramsey Courthouse Limited which has reflected the grass-roots desire here in Ramsey, to retain its Post Office at the heart of the town as a true community enterprise.”
“We were excited to learn that anyone can become a shareholder in the business – in fact the very essence of a community enterprise is that as many people in the community as possible actually own shares in the business they are supporting”, said David Dorricott, AFD’s group Managing Director.
AFD’s holding company has now applied for shares in the new Company which is to run Ramsey Post Office from September this year, and is encouraging other businesses and individuals in the North of the Island to do the same.
