The heavy overnight rains had cleared by 10 o’clock on Sunday morning but the winds were too strong to allow shooting to take place. A very small group of archers assembled in the afternoon to shoot a metric round in accordance with their age group. Weather conditions in the afternoon were perfect – glorious sunshine and no wind.
With a large contingent away at the Island Games only six archers turned up on Sunday. Rhys Moore, Barbara Harris and Josh Trafford shot a Short Metric round (36 arrows at each of two distances 50 and 30m), while Juniors James Hill, Toby Young and Joseph Reaney shot a Short Metric II (36 arrows at each of two distances 40 and 30m).
Rhys Moore was shooting the round for the first time since switching to Compound and put in a score commensurate with his handicap. Josh Trafford was shooting the round for the first time in two years and his level of improvement was highlighted by his adding 322 points to his personal best score. Barbara Harris continues to have a nightmare of a season shooting well below her best.
The juniors were quite evenly matched over the first distance with only seven points difference between the three of them. However over the shorter distance Toby and Joseph began to pull away from James, with Joseph Reaney in particular enjoying the 30m. Joseph took the win by a clear 54 points from Toby in second.
Results: Short Metric – Gents Compound Rhys Moore 72/663/34/16. Junior Gents Recurve Josh Trafford 72/586/14/5pb. Ladies Recurve Barbara Harris 69/529/5/1. Short Metric II – Junior Gents Recurve 1. Joseph Reaney 63/356/2/1, 2. Toby Young 55/302/1/0, 3. James Hill 53/286/1/0.
Apologies to James Hill whose score from last week was actually a new pb for the round. James added 53 points to his previous best but this was not picked up on by the Club’s Records Officer.
