We need YOU for IOM world record bid

by isleofman.com 30th June 2015

Tynwald Day is the ideal time to showcase everything that is great about our Island – and this year there’s a plan to reach out to a global audience and break a world record.

Twitter's hottest new app, called Periscope, allows you to broadcast live video to the entire world via your smartphone. Whether you're taking part in the celebrations at Tynwald Hill, hiking on South Barrule or having a BBQ with friends, why not take part and show the world why our Island is the best place in the world to live?

It's easy. Just download the Periscope app for free using your Twitter account, hit the red button and you're live on air! Shoot your video between 10am and 1pm on Monday 6th July (Tynwald Day) and help set the world record for the highest number of Periscope users in one country! Let's show the world that the Isle of Man deserves the title #DigitIsle

The world record bid is being organised by the Manx ICT Association (MICTA), and supported by SES, Manx Telecom, Sure, Bluewave Communications, and the Department of Economic Development.

If you don’t have the Periscope app it’s available for iPhone and Android from the App Store and Google. If you’re not sure how Periscope works take a look at this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN3_Frw5OpE

Kurt Roosen, Chief Executive of MICTA, commented: “This is a fun event using a fantastic app which opens up the possibility of live streaming video to anyone with an iOS or Android smartphone. But it’s also an ideal opportunity for the Isle of Man to demonstrate to the world our commitment to digital technology which plays a vital role in all sectors of the economy.”

As with many apps, consumers should be aware that streaming videos via Periscope uses data - so they may incur mobile data charges if the app is used when not connected to a wifi network. If in doubt, please check with your network provider.
