Time is running out if you want to get a discount on the entry fee for the Tough Mann Adventure Challenge in association with Manx Telecom. The event – which is a 10km assault course race which includes 25 obstacles such as muddy bogs, rope scrambles and monkey bars – takes place on Saturday August 1 at Ballamoar Farm, Ballaugh. The full price of the entry fee for individuals is ?45, but you can get a ?4 discount if you enter before July 1. There’s also an event for teams of three and a ?9 discount on the entry fee before July 1. Team entry is ?117 now, and ?126 after that date.
The final deadline for all entries is midnight on Sunday July 26 – but the event is strictly limited to a maximum of 750 entrants so organisers are urging everyone who wants to be certain of taking part to sign-up as soon as possible. Tough Mann is open to competitors who will be 16 or over on August 1 this year. All competitors over the age of 18 who complete the challenge will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a free Bushy’s beer (finishers aged under 18 will receive a free soft drink and t-shirt).
All entrants in the Tough Mann Challenge have a chance win some great prizes from Manx Telecom with Sony smartphones and fitness bands being awarded to the fastest man and fastest woman in the under 21, 21-40, and over 40s categories. All three members of the fastest team will each receive a Sony smartphone and fitness band, and all the individual and team category winners will receive Tough Mann Challenge trophies. Grit and determination, combined with a sense of fun and fair play, are qualities which are shared by everyone involved with the Tough Mann Challenge – so this year there will also be a ‘Spirit of the Event’ award for the competitor who best demonstrates these values.
Manx Telecom is sponsoring the event from this year until 2017, and in addition to financial support the Island’s leading communications company is providing technical assistance to help the organisers cope with the complex logistics of running the event and collating results, and helping to promote the event via its media channels. Event organisers are asking competitors to try and raise ?10 for The Children's Centre to help support the charity’s projects which help families and children across the Island. Entrants can collect donations with the form that they receive on the sign-on evening, or you can donate directly by going to http://www.thechildrenscentre.org.im/support-our-work/donate-online/.
