A great performance by Dan Hawke has taken Peel and St John’s into the final of the Tinker Cup. The Saints beat Ramsey by nine wickets and will meet Cronkbourne who had a good win over Crosby.
Ramsey batted first at Mullen-e-Cloie and were dismissed for 104 in 17 overs. Their batting was very aggressive and the total included no fewer than 6 sixes and 8 fours.
Dan Kelly top scored with 27, Brandon Atchison made 23 and James Arneill had an undefeated 25, including 3 sixes in one over. Dan Hawke and Kieran Cawte each took three wickets while Russell Miller and Seth Aycock both claimed two victims.
Needing 105 to win, skipper Hawke opened the Saints’ reply and smashed an amazing 50 in just 18 balls. When he reached his half century, partner Ollie Webster had made only four!
Hawke was finally trapped by Dom Howard for a whirlwind 57, but Webster then took over. He was 29 not out as his side reached their target in just seven overs for the loss of one wicket.
Cronkbourne turned in a fine team performance at Marown. They scored 185 with Adam Killey hitting 28, Jack Gerrard 26, Jaco Jansen 25 and Max Stokoe 24. Harry Rothwell continued his good form by taking four wickets, Jack Rowlands collected three and Joe Rothwell two.
The Crosby batsmen started confidently, but with the total on 20 disaster struck. Jansen clean bowled both openers and a run later Sam Kebble took the prize scalp of Danny Kniveton. Harry Rothwell and Drew Buxton fought back with a stand of 48, but then wickets began to tumble.
At 81 for 8 it looked all over, but Dave Picken hit out to make 20 and take the final total to 121. Jansen, Nick Wild, Max Stokoe and Adam McAuley each took two wickets.
