Former British Lions and Scotland international rugby player Tony Stanger will visit the Island to share his expertise on how young sporting potential can be nurtured.
His presentation takes place 2pm on Saturday 18th July at the Keyll Darree Lecture Theatre at Noble’s Hospital. The event is free to attend, with places available on a first come, first served basis.
Titled ‘Understanding Talent’, the presentation is the first in a series of lectures for coaches, athletes, parents and sports administrators being organised as part of the newly launched Sports Coaching Development Programme.
Trevor Christian, Sports Coaching Coordinator for Isle of Man Sport, said: ‘Tony will talk about why some athletes who are promising when young never make it in sport and others who have limited success as juniors go on to have amazing careers.
‘Understanding talent is a workshop designed for people who want to know more about why this can happen and what they can do to help any athlete reach their potential.
‘Tony will show how to use a robust, evidence-based definition of talent to create an environment designed to give athletes the best chance of success.’
Improving and developing coaching is a key objective in the Strategy for Sport 2014-24.
It’s planned to hold a programme of workshops and seminars designed to support local coaches’ personal development.
