Social Affairs Policy Review Committee meeting next week

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee is continuing its work on children’s social services and in particular the problem of over-referral. The Committee will take oral evidence on this subject next week from Maggie Mellon.

The Committee intends to take this evidence on Monday 29th June 2015 at 2.30 pm in the Legislative Council Chamber, Legislative Buildings, Bucks Road, Douglas. The evidence will be taken in public; members of the public are welcome to attend.

Maggie Mellon MSc CQSW Dip Child Protection is a social worker with over 35 years experience. Formerly head of public policy for NCH Action for Children Scotland and Director of Services for Children First, Maggie is a social work consultant with a strong emphasis on family and child rights and welfare. Maggie was Chair of the Scottish Child Law Centre until 2012 and is currently a Non Executive Director of NHS Health Scotland (2008 -), and Vice Chair of the British Association of Social Workers (2014 -).

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee is a Standing Committee of Tynwald with a remit to scrutinise the implemented policies of the Departments of Education and Children, Health and Social Care, and Home Affairs. The Members are Mrs Brenda Cannell MHK (Chair), Mr David Cretney MLC and the Hon Steve Rodan SHK.
